The Official Windows Mobile Discussion Thread

FYI, Exchange 2007 is defiantly written for WM6 devices. It is very picky when it comes to the settings on WM5 devices. I have ironed out all of the wrinkles and I have it working perfectly.

Tomorrow I migrate to Vista.

I am happy to report that I have installed Vista Ultimate (x64) and that the new WMDC is working perfectly with my Exchange Server.

Now my only problem is lack of a security suite for x64; Windows OneCare isn't compatible.

As expected, Microsoft announced Windows Mobile 6 yesterday.

SWEET, I'm excited. Sucks we have to wait until around next Monday for announcements from vendors :(

When do you think we can grab it Mattyboy?

HTML support for e-mail will be sweet. I get some HTML content that I have to find a PC to read which is a bummer sometimes if I need something :(

Remote wipe also seems nifty.

Derek, sorry pal. You won't have HTML support unless you upgrade your Exchange box to 2007. Exchange Server 2003 does not include HTML with Direct Push. It is a new feature with 2007.

Remote wipe is also a new feature with 2007 and WM6.

I would assume a ROM upgrade will be out within a month or two. We have been promised a Push-To-Talk ROM upgrade in Q1 of 2007 which hasn't been delivered yet. It is my belief that they held off on it to include it with WM6. Only time will tell.

*waves fist*

Looks like I'll have to upgrade my Exchange setup too

Exchange Server 2007 rocks. When you have a moment get in touch with me and I'll show you around the new version. I've set it up eight times while perfecting my new server (I am a perfectionist).

I just noticed the ROM is dated 8/11/2006. That can't be the final version so I imagine things will change slightly.

Well, it's confirmed that the T-Mobile Dash will get an official upgrade to Crossbow.

By the second quarter of this year, the world will see the first Windows Mobile 6 powered devices available on the market. In Europe, Orange plans to deliver the SPV E650 smartphone from HTC, and in Japan, SoftBank Mobile Corp. will offer new devices from Toshiba and HTC. And in the United States, the popular T-Mobile Dash will be updated with Windows Mobile 6 and be available in the coming months. Current T-Mobile Dash owners will also be able to upgrade existing devices with Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.

Scores of additional mobile operators and device makers from around the globe, including Cingular Wireless, now the new AT&T, Chunghwa Telecom, Dopod International Corp., HP, LG Electronics, Motorola Inc., Palm Inc., Samsung, Sprint, Telefónica, Toshiba, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone, plan to ship Windows Mobile 6-based devices this year. Many of these partners are expanding large existing portfolios of Windows Mobile powered smartphones.

No word on upgrades for the T-Mobile MDA or the Cingular 8125/8525 yet.
Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

I don't think the 8125 will see an upgrade. I would bet on the MDA and 8525 though. The new VX6800 (from Verizon) which will be shipping soon but with WM5 (from what I've read) but should get an upgrade down the road.

I know the Wizard (MDA/8125) is perfectly capable of running Crossbow. As I mentioned earlier, that was the first phone I actually saw it running on in Redmond last year. One of Microsoft's official slides also shows Crossbow running on the Wizard.

The only question is whether or not T-Mobile will release an official ROM for it.
Regardless, I will be installing it sooner or later. ;)

If you get your hands on the final version of it then I'd happily take a copy off your hands.

All of these announcements and none of them are for your MDA or my 8525. Frustrating!

Nowhere does it mention a manufacturer or model number so I can’t find a price or is this just vapourware or wishful thinking? If this was for real then I’m buying it but from where and for how much?

Is it the HTC Advantage X7500?

It's not out yet; it was officially announced today. It'll be available from T-Mobile within a few months (Europe first, then the US).

Any of the SP crew still out there?
