Wait and see in the long run who's cds stay error free longer. :p

I've been thinkin of putting my CD Burner into one of my Daughter's XP boxes. and getting a new one anyway.

Either the TDK veloCD 52x ... $99.00 (attachment 1)

Write Speed ... 52X
Rewrite Speed ... 24X
Read Speed ... 48X
Rip Speed ... 48X
Burst Read ... 16.6 MB/sec.
Data Buffer ... 2 MB

Or the Midnight veloCD ... $169.99 (attachment 2)

Combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive
Write Speed ... 48X
Rewrite Speed ... 24X
Read Speed ... 48X
Rip Speed ... 48X
DVD Read Speed ... 16X
Burst Read ... 16.6 MB/sec.
Data Buffer ... 2 MB

Now the Midnight is the exact same frickin color as my case, *drools* :D but I already have a DVD-ROM drive. :(

Now the veloCD 52/24/48X, it's blue... Well the tray anyway. Now it would look very nice also. The important thing is, it's CHEAPER! :p

Now you may ask, why TDK? I have had excellent results with my Burner. And yeah, my CDs are error free. :D

Ooooooo... TigerDirect.com has the veloCD 52/24/48X for $79.99 and a $20.00 rebate. Best of all it's balck. (attachment 3) WooHoo! :D

Eh, just get a black liteon 52327s. They're cheap, and is probably the same drive as the TDK.

Xie... jus to let you know, an older, slower drive probably would have a better chance of having buffer underrun errors than a newer faster drive. Buffer Underrun protection rox.

Gonaads, i rather like Asus's CD-RW drives. work quite well. i've had it for i think close to 2 years, and i think i only had like 1 coaster each year. i actually had one yesterday, which i'm not exactly sure if it's a coaster yet or not. The Error that Nero gave me was "Could not perform fixation"..... sounds kinda creepy if ya ask me. You could also try getting a black DVD+/-RW. Mine's a LiteOn. got it for like $93 at the Market Pro's Computer Show. it also came wit a free copy of DVD X Copy, which alone is like a $60 program.

Workstation:
MSI-6309 mainboard
Pentium III 800MHz @ 133 Mhz
2x 128MB SD-RAM (Samsung and Kingston)
30 GB 7200rpm, ATA133 harddisk (Maxtor)
16x DVD, 40X CD-ROM drive (NEC)
24x10x40 CD-writer (Samsung)
Geforce 3 Ti200 videocard (Creative) (running at 190.40MHz core and 419.99 MHz memory)
Soundblaster Live! Digital 5.1 (Creative)
Cheap ass Realtek 10/100mbit networkcard

Attached to the workstation:
Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 speakers
Samsung Syncmaster 151s 15" TFT
Canon S750 printer
Canon D646u scanner
Sweex 100K pixels webcam
Logitech Cordless Optical Desktop
Cradle for the Compaq iPaq 31xx/36xx series

Server:
MSI-6430 Mini-ATX mainboard
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1 GHz
128MB SD-RAM (unknown brand, couldn't be bothered to pull it out to check the brand)
20 GB 5400 rpm, ATA133 harddisk (Maxtor)
8x4x24x CD-writer
nVidia Riva TNT2 Ultra 32 MB (Diamond Viper v770 Ultra)
on-board sound (disabled, not needed in a server)
Via-based 10/100mbit, goldplated netword card (Qware)

Attached to the server:
cheap, snotty keyboard (used for emergencies only, configuration goes via a SSH shell)
HP Laserjet 4L printer (for network printing jobs)

These two computers are interconnected through a router using a built-in 10/100mbit switch. This router is connected to a cable-modem running at 2048kbps down and 384 kbps up.

Seperate stuff:
Compaq iPaq 3630 with Pocket PC2002.

Shrek a man after my own heart. I actually cleaned up my desk before i took the picture... I also hook my rig to a 27" flat screen for gams and stuff.

Hey Elemental... TDK and Plextor have had buffer underrun technology for like forever.

The first anti-buffer underrun technology, Buffer Under Run-Proof (Burn-Proof), was developed by Sanyo back in 1999.They introduced it with their 12x writer. Then everyone was either licensing the technology or like Ricoh and Yamaha, they created their own version.

So older drives (depending on manufacturer) would still have "Buffer Underrun Technology"

and ummm, "Could not perform fixation".

I think Nero like you.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
