Yes, there's an alternative to PGTG, Freepops allows you to have one or multiple Gmail accounts within your e-mail client using the POP3 protocol. You can find it there: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=105652 Be sure to take the SSL version.

You also need the special plugin for Gmail I attached as I can't remember where I downloaded it from (config.lua in root directory and gmail.lua in LUA sub-folder).

Once Freepops is installed with its plugin(don't forget to put a shorcut to it in the start menu 'startup' folder), the account(s) setup is quite easy:

user: user@gmail.com (yes, full address)
password: your.password

POP3 server: localhost
Smtp server: your.isp.smtp
Advanced tab:
Incoming (POP3): port 2000
SSL: unchecked

Works great for me :)

cool. I wanna try this out. How do I find out what "your.isp.smtp" is??

I guess you have an e-mail account with you isp, no ?
Put the same smtp server used in your main pop3 account, should be fine ;)

Edit:
OOOOps, forgot to mention that there seems to be other versions for other Operating Systems than Windows on the link provided ;)

Doesnt seem to work for me!

'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming POP3 server'

Any ideas?

You may have a mistake somewhere...

user: full e-mail address
POP3 server: localhost
POP3 port: 2000

Yep..got those in there. It doesnt seem to accept my login/pass for my gmail account. I've tested i have them right in IE and can login fine there.

Lets me send from my gmail account tho. ??

You have to have freepops running too correct?

yes, freepops must be running in systray.

yes, you can send from your gmail account (using the appropriate smtp). Only thing is that the sent mail(s) won't appear in the sent folder when you access your account in IE (or other browser), too bad...

OOps...my bad. I didnt download the SSL version! All working now!

Cheers Wolf

I'm glad it works for you now :)
I don't know why the SSL version is needed as the SSL option must be disabled in the account....

ps.: rep point me if you enjoy it now... ;)

ok a little more progress. I used my hotpop smtp, but now it keeps prompting me for my username & password....

strange...

There must be a mistake somewhere... you can't use your provider's smtp ? Hotpop is not a provider/e-mail service, is it ?
Let's take my example: my ISP is Free Telecom (Fr), its smtp is 'smtp.free.fr'.
Maybe Hotpop smtp refuses to forward your e-mails... you know, I won't sent your message as you're using a rival service, such things....
What's your provider, in the end ?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
