I have kind of a strange request. Does anyone know of a command I can use to completely redraw/reset the entire Desktop and Taskbar in Windows XP??
I have an installation of XP that I cannot (for the next 6 months or so) get rid of--due to special programs that cannot be replaced at this time...
When I try to play quicktime movie clips that were saved to my harddrive the playback starts out ok (the beginning of the clip starts to play ok) but then a "green" screen pops over the playback. I figured this was some sort of protection quicktime put into their player to keep people from...
Just thought I would throw this out and see if any of the rest of you have any experience with this.
After upgrading to SP2 (winXP Pro) I have been unable to sucessfully run the "Repair Install" option. (found previous version of WinXP....choose R to repair the installed version of Windows)...
Doing a clean reinstall of WinXP on a friends machine...do I need to update with SP1 before I upgrade with SP2??
or can I just apply SP2 and ignore SP1??
LOL....thought I would ask to see if anyone knew the answer, before I really screwed thing sup...

How do I go about adding a program to the "pop up" windowsXP Pro dialog box after I insert a CD into a drive??
For example:
When I put a video CD into my CDRom drive a dialog box opens asking:

I have had this in the past and I always solved it by doing a repair install of XP.... This time someone called me with the same problem and they only have a "stupid" Restore Disk...so....

This is a very strange one.
This happened before and I fixed it with a reinstall of winXP but it just started again.
After starting up windows XP (either startup or reboot, happens either way) I end up with a Totally blank computer screen. The backround shows up but there are NO desktop...
I need to be able to specify the computer to automatically shutdown at a pre-determined time.

I accidently pushed the sleep button on my cheap keyboard and put WinXP Pro into standby mode.
How do you Wake the computer up??

I just downloaded the soundblaster update from the front page.
D/l ok and started to install, but the installer had a whole lotta ?????????? displayed in the dialog boxes during installation.
I re-d/l and got the same thing. Appearently it is the correct program but something is strange...
Forgive me,I might have been halucinating, but wasn't there a post on the front page yesterday about a little program that that could check for corrupted data on burned cds??
I could have sworn I saw it, but when I went back later there was nothing there.

My IE started showing those damn 'shortened dropdown menus' rather than the entire dropdown so that when I hit any of the dropdowns (file edit view favorites tools) I am shown only the first 5 or so options and to see the rest I have to wait with my curse over the bottom pointing arrows until...
..and when I right click on the start button and use properties->start menu customize->advanced-> x (box)- run command it STILL does not show up:mad:
How do I find the entry in the registry that migt correct this and put my run button back???
or is there another solution??

Currently I am limited to 800x600 resolution (that will change in the future). But NOW I have the following problem.
When I look at the programs menu (the one that pops up from the start button) I cannot see the last column of listed programs --The right side column is cut off.
